What the heck is “the geoscope” anyway?

Good question!
It always takes a little explaining.
Here’s Wikipedia’s take on the word:
“The Geoscope was a proposal by Buckminster Fuller in 1962 to create a 200-foot-diameter (61 m) globe, which would be covered in colored lights so that it could function as a large spherical display. It was envisioned that the Geoscope would be connected to computers which would allow it to display both historical and current data, and enable people to visualize large scale patterns around the globe.[1]“
Surely an interesting project, but that’s not how I came up with this word to represent my brand.
The Geoscope is a behind the scenes look at the work I do, and stories I produce.
As a journalist, my work has taken me to a lot of interesting places. I have had the privilege to interview two U.S. presidents – I’ve sat across from people to cover stories about their very best moments in life – and I have also reported the facts about people during their most difficult moments. The wide range of experiences always teaches me something new, about perspectives I might not have otherwise known. Thankfully, it’s a life filled with new lessons that continues to broaden my worldview. That’s why I picked the prefix “geo” – for world or worldview – and yes, also the first three letters of my first name.
As a journalist, I report on the things I see, hear, and experience. It’s my responsibility to provide viewers and followers with a clear, objective explanation of what’s happening. That’s the “scope” part of my personal business brand – defined as a viewing instrument; the range of one’s perceptions or view.
Through the geoscope, you can keep up with the stories I cover, and projects I am involved in that are important to me.
Geoscope LLC is the name of the business I founded as the parent company to the Breaking into Broadcasting I launched in 2009 – an online collaborative designed to help people who are interested in broadcasting and responsible broadcast journalism.
I truly love what I do for a living: asking questions, getting answers, and sharing meaningful stories that make a difference for people. I believe the more we know about the people and situations around us, the better off we all are. Whether it’s through long format storytelling or short news pieces, I strive to produce quality journalism that is engaging, thought provoking, and memorable.
I am excited to share the adventure with you on this blog!
